Update from Cairo

image
04.01.2011

Friends of The Mission Society who reside in Cairo work with an orphanage in the city. On March 2, sectarian violence broke out in the “garbage area,” which is few miles away from the orphanage.

The “garbage area” includes a community of 30,000 people who live in a section of the city surrounded by refuse. They make a living collecting and sorting trash. Some of the orphans and orphanage staff are from this area.

The violence injured 150 Christians, most suffering from gunshot wounds. Some were injured seriously, and 15 of them were killed. Nearly a dozen houses and some factories were burned as well. Police and ambulances did not arrive on the scene until the next day.

Please join us in prayers for those who lost loved ones, those who are struggling economically in the wake of the revolution, and the continuing violence and uncertainty for Christians in Egypt.
