02.12.2013

The Mission Society missionaries and staff recently gathered together in southern Europe February 6-10, 2013. This gathering gave the missionaries an opportunity to share ideas about mission strategy, to discuss global trends in mission, and to encourage one another in their ministries.

Steve Moore, CEO of Missio Nexus and author of Seize the Vuja de and Who is My Neighbor? facilitated the discussion. Moore led the group in addressing several of the issues he has observed in current global mission and the need for innovation that he has observed from his vantage point with Missio Nexus. Missio Nexus is an umbrella organization that serves mission agencies throughout North America.

Thirty Mission Society missionaries and 10 home office staff, as well as the Rev. Max Wilkins, a Mission Society board member and the senior pastor of The Family Church in Gainesville, Florida, attended the event.

“Our best assets in mission thought and planning are not confined to the home office, but are represented by our missionaries scattered around the world. By bringing Mission Society missionaries and staff together for gatherings like this, we experience incredible energy, insights, and vision for how God wants us to move forward as a community in the service of His kingdom,” said Jim Ramsay, vice president for mission ministries.

Two years ago The Mission Society implemented coaching as a tool for helping missionaries reflect upon their ministries, plan strategy, and work through issues. Several missionaries were trained in coaching at the initial training in 2010. Two of them, Billy and Laurie Drum, found the training so transformational in their own lives and ministry that they went on to receive the full coach training and certification. The Drums are now certified to teach basic Christian coaching, which they did for 20 Mission Society missionaries and staff at the gathering.
