Arthur and Mary Alice Ivey serve with The Mission Society team in Huancayo, Peru. Arthur ministers through church planting, evangelism and discipleship, as well as assisting short-term mission teams. Mary Alice is a former teacher and works in children’s and youth ministry.

One of Arthur’s ministries is leading a Bible study for the “shoe-shine boys.” These men shine shoes from morning until nightfall seven days a week, in order to earn enough money to survive. Yet, each Monday they stop their work for two hours and study the Bible with Arthur.

Willy Saldado is one of the shoe shiners who has come to Christ through Arthur’s ministry. Years ago, Willy asked to speak privately with Arthur. He explained that he wanted to know what was different about the Ivey family. He said they seemed so happy. Arthur shared Jesus with Willy, and he accepted Christ.

Willy became a part of Arthur’s discipleship group and also participated in the evangelism class that the Iveys taught. He also started teaching the shoe-shine boys with Arthur. However, Margot, his wife, did not choose to share her husband’s faith.

Recently, Margot kept breaking out with a rash all over her body. She would go to the doctor, receive an injection, and the rash would go away for a little while, but it always came back. Willy told Margot that Jesus would heal her. He and their children gathered together and prayed for Margot. God healed her completely.

As a result, Margot accepted Christ. She immediately wanted to share her faith with her friend. Willy and Margot visited her friend, and Willy shared the gospel with her. Margot’s friend accepted Christ as well.

“If we are faithful just to share Christ with one person, God will multiply that tremendously,” writes Mary Alice. Please pray that God will continue to work in Margot’s life and her friend’s life.”
