David and Angela* live and minister in a part of Asia which has a high concentration of Buddhists. This couple teaches English and mentors young Christians in their faith. Here, David shares a story about one of their students and the change they have seen in her.

Angela and I were very honored to be invited to our student’s home for an important festival in our host country. Huan* lives in a rural farming community and is the only person in her village who speaks English. Most of the people in the area have never seen a foreigner.

We have really connected with this family through Huan. Over the past few months we have been tutoring her in English as she prepares to study abroad. In November, she received her first Bible. On Christmas day, she removed the Buddha pendant that she has worn from childhood and asked Angela to help her put on a Christian cross we gave her as Christmas gift.

While we have lived with her family, Huan’s mother has become receptive to the gospel. Angela is studying the book of John with her.

Huan is a great example of why we are here. If we came back to the United States today, I could honestly say that the last five years of preparation and planning have already been a success. Yet I feel that God has so much more in store here, and I am excited to be a part of it!
