Ministering to Japanese in Tennessee

image
01.10.2014

Neal and his family ministered in Japan for more than 30 years. They were involved in pastoral ministry, homeless outreach, evangelism, prayer summits, and the International VIP Club ministry to unreached Japanese business men and women.

After the passing of his wife, a native of Japan, Neal relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to serve among Japanese business people in the area. Here he shares an update on the growing ministry in Nashville.

God has connected me with two other men who have a desire to share the gospel with the Japanese. Together we have nearly 100 years of missionary work and service toward reaching Japanese for Christ.

Steve Young, the husband of Sarah Young who wrote the Jesus Calling devotionals, served as a third-generation missionary to Japan for a number of years before planting the first-ever Japanese church in Melbourne, Australia. Steve now ministers in Nashville.

The Rev. Charlie Williams serves as the pastor of the Japanese congregation at the First Baptist Church in Nashville. Together we have committed to reach out to Japanese business men and their families.

There are a number of Japanese business people working for Nissan, Bridgestone, and a host of other Japanese companies, as well as Vanderbilt Hospital here in Nashville.

Steve, Charlie, and I hosted an “American Christmas Experience” at Christ Presbyterian Church to get to know some Japanese in the area. We had snacks, games for the children, a children’s Christmas play, and a performance of Handel’s Messiah. Most internationals are never invited into an American home and are eager to learn about their host culture. We plan to have many more events to get to know these families and help them adjust to life in America.

We are offering free English classes to the families of the men working for these companies. We also host the International VIP Club, which is a Bible-centered business networking group for Japanese and led by Japanese.

In addition, I’m assisting Martin Bennett with the upcoming release of his book, Wounded Tiger. Bennett wrote the book based on the true story of a top Japanese naval officer who became a Christian and an evangelist. Mitsuo Fuchida led the attack on Pearl Harbor.

I believe the movie will be used by the Lord to sweep multitudes of Japanese hearts into the kingdom of God. It is amazing that Mari, my late wife, had a part in the translation of the film into Japanese subtitles. That was the last work she completed before she went home to be with her Lord.

I’m so amazed by how the Lord is moving among the Japanese and humbled to be part of what He is doing!

The book is currently being made into a major motion picture. You can order the book here - https://www.woundedtigerbook.com/?referral=731170.
