The Mission Society co-sponsored Kenya to the Nations Cross-Cultural Mission Training conference in Nakuru, Kenya October 13-25, 2013. More than 100 people attended the training event, representing 27 denominations, 17 different organizations, 15 tribes, and three countries.

“The goal of the conference,” said Dr. Darrell Whiteman, vice president for mission mobilization and training and resident missiologist, “was to help Kenyans communicate the gospel effectively across cultural barriers, to learn the importance and power of making disciple-makers, and to more effectively begin to reach the 22 unreached people groups in Kenya and beyond.”

Mission Society staff Dr. Whiteman and the Rev. Frank Decker, vice president for member care and development, taught various sessions of the event. They were joined by the Rev. Dr. Denny Heiberg, a Mission Society missionary. Other sessions were taught by Kenyan leaders, including Duncan Olumbe, Senah Sogey, Tom Ogalo, and others. Eric Miller led a daily Inductive Bible Study.

Sessions included the topics of the theology of mission, spiritual warfare, worldview, member care, orality and communicating the gospel, discipleship, culture shock, belief systems, conflict resolution, and organizational integrity.

"Any time you can have multiple people from multiple tribes of Kenya in one room, discussing tribal issues and concerns, peacefully, for the sake of the kingdom of our God, I would say it is God-ordained and absolutely amazing! I learned so much from the facilitators, as well as conference participants," said Sonia Crawley, a Mission Society missionary to Kenya.

Steve Mwaniki, a youth minister in Nairobi, remarked, “This training was timely for me. I pray to God that I will work around the clock to ensure that the gospel prospers wherever I am. I want to rewrite my vision and broaden it because this training reignited me for greater tasks.”
