Anthropological Insights for Missionaries” available in Russian

10.18.2013

Several years ago, Mission Society missionaries working in Kazakhstan had a classic missions text, Anthropological Insights for Missionaries, by Paul Hiebert, translated into Russian. Maria, a woman who attended the church Mission Society missionaries had planted, did the translation work. Jim Ramsay, now The Mission Society’s vice president for mission ministries, used the translated version of Hiebert’s book in the “Missions and Culture” class he taught at the Central Asian Evangelical School of Theology when he served in Kazakhstan.

Unfortunately, after four years of translation work, Kazakhstan’s publishing laws prohibited the book from being published. But two years ago, the North Caucasus Biblical Institute, which was seeking to translate Hiebert’s book into Russian, discovered that the Central Asian Evangelical School of Theology held the rights to the translation of the book and contacted Ramsay. He signed over the rights, and the Institute was able to publish Anthropological Insights for Missionaries in Russian, 10 years after the translation project had first begun.

“It is exciting that this important mission text now is available in an excellent Russian translation for Russian-speaking theological and mission education,” said Ramsay.
