In the 1990s, the communist regime imposed on Albania since the 1940s crumbled, leaving the country devastated. Under communism, Albania was declared the world’s first atheist nation. Even though God has been at work, especially since the country opened in the 1990s, there is much work to be done toward economic, moral, and spiritual recovery.
In Albania, one of Europe’s poorest nations, minority groups are often marginalized. The Roma (Gypsy) people are one such minority who have little access to jobs and education. Through discipleship and occupational training, TMS Global workers have a vision to see a Christ-following community of faith be planted among the Roma. These workers are also involved in a school for third-culture kids, in which teachers educate, support, and disciple missionary children with a passionate heart for God.
